Renting a catamaran in Cancun means booking the entire boat for your group. There are no seats to buy and no strangers on board. Rates start at $1,050 USD for the whole vessel, and every charter leaves from Marina Marazul in Puerto Juarez, the closest marina to Isla Mujeres.
This page lists the full rental fleet with real capacities and real base rates, explains what the price does and does not cover, and shows how to pick the right boat for the size of your group. If you already know you want a private charter, you can skip ahead and ask for a quote on WhatsApp.

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in Cancun?
The rate you see is for the boat, not for each person. A group of twelve and a group of four pay the same $1,050 for The Azure 35, which is why renting privately gets cheaper per head the more people you bring.
On top of the base rate there is a dock and reef fee of $20 USD per person, paid separately. That fee is set by the marina and the marine park, not by us, and it applies to every boat leaving Puerto Juarez.
A worked example. Twenty friends renting the Solar Ice: $1,500 for the catamaran plus $400 in dock and reef fees, so $1,900 total, or $95 per person for an open bar, a buffet lunch at a beach club, snorkeling and a full day at sea. A shared tour with a hundred strangers on board usually lands in the same range per person.
Which catamaran fits your group?
- Up to 14 guests — The Azure 35. The smallest and cheapest boat in the fleet, right for a family or a couple of couples.
- 15 to 30 guests — Amarys 38, GreenTastic or Solar Ice. The two Ice Bar boats sit in this range, which is why most bachelorette and birthday groups end up here.
- 31 to 50 guests — Noe Deluxe, Miami Beach, Moon or the Lagoon 450. Enough deck space that people can spread out instead of sitting shoulder to shoulder.
- 51 to 75 guests — Noe Island or The Mayan 55. The usual choice for weddings and company outings.
- Over 100 guests — Long Long Rider, The Imperial 68 or the Slide Party Boat. The Imperial 68 is the largest sailing catamaran operating out of Cancun.
If your group is near the top of a boat’s capacity, go one size up. Maximum capacity is what the vessel is licensed to carry, not the number at which it stays comfortable.
What your catamaran rental includes
- Captain, first mate and a snorkeling guide
- Open bar the whole trip — rum, vodka, tequila, beer and mixers
- Hot buffet lunch at a beach club on Isla Mujeres, with hammocks and beach chairs
- Snorkeling equipment for everyone on board
- Sound system you control, so it is your playlist and not the crew’s
- Ice Bar entry on the GreenTastic, Solar Ice, Miami Beach and Moon
Not included: the $20 per person dock and reef fee, and transportation from your hotel to the marina. We can arrange the transfer if you ask when you book.
Where you depart from and where you sail
All rentals leave from Marina Marazul in Puerto Juarez, on the north side of Cancun bay. It is the shortest crossing to Isla Mujeres, so you spend the day on the water rather than getting there.
A standard route takes in the El Meco reef or MUSA 3 for snorkeling, then Isla Mujeres and Playa Norte for lunch and swimming, with the return across Bahia de Mujeres. Because the boat is yours, the captain will change the plan on the day — more snorkeling, a longer stop at the beach club, an earlier return. Groups staying north of the hotel zone often ask about Costa Mujeres departures instead.
Durations and departure times
Charters run 4, 5, 6 or 7 hours, with full-day options on the larger boats. Most groups take the 6 or 7 hour charter, which is what a comfortable day looks like: crossing, snorkeling stop, lunch at the beach club, swimming time at Playa Norte, and the sail home. Four and five hour charters work if you are short on time or have small children with you.
How to rent a catamaran in Cancun, step by step
- Tell us the date and the head count. Those two things determine which boats are free and which sizes make sense.
- Pick the catamaran. We send availability and rates for the boats that fit, with photos and deck layouts.
- Confirm with a deposit. The date is held once the deposit clears. The balance is due on the day of the charter.
- Arrive at Marina Marazul. Be there thirty minutes before departure so the crew can board everyone without eating into your time on the water.
Weekends, Christmas, New Year and spring break get booked out well ahead. For a group over fifty, or for a wedding date you cannot move, ask two or three months out.
Renting the whole catamaran vs booking seats on a shared tour
A shared tour sells individual seats and fills the boat with whoever else booked that day. The route is fixed, the music is the crew’s, the bar has a queue, and the boat leaves the beach club when the schedule says so.
Renting the catamaran means the deck is yours. You decide the departure time, the playlist and how long you stay anywhere. Nobody else boards. For a group of fifteen or more the price per person usually lands close to what a shared tour charges, which is the reason most of our bookings come from groups who priced both.
Questions about renting a catamaran in Cancun
Can I rent a catamaran in Cancun for just a few hours?
Yes. Four hours is the shortest charter. It covers a snorkeling stop and time at Playa Norte, though it does not leave much room for a long lunch.
Do I need experience to rent a catamaran here?
No. Every rental is fully crewed — captain, mate and snorkeling guide. These are not bareboat rentals, so no licence or sailing experience is needed from you.
Can we bring our own food and drinks?
The open bar and the beach club buffet are already included, so most groups do not need to. If you want a specific cake, bottle or catering for a celebration, tell us when you book and we will arrange it or clear you to bring it aboard.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If the port authority closes the port, or the captain judges conditions unsafe, we move your charter to another date at no cost. Cancun rain usually passes in an hour and charters sail as planned.
Check a date
Send the date, the number of guests and roughly what you want the day to look like, and you will get availability and a firm price back the same day. Message us on WhatsApp, or see the full FAQ and the private catamaran charters overview first.
Everything you need to know
How do I book this charter?
Send us a WhatsApp message at +52 998 144 9355 with your preferred date and group size. We respond the same day with availability and exact pricing. A deposit confirms the booking.
What is NOT included in the price?
A $4 USD per-person tip for the crew. Card processing fees (not charged when paying in cash).
Where does the charter depart from?
Most charters depart from Marina Puerto Juárez in Cancun (left side of the bay). If you want to depart from Isla Mujeres, it's possible — just keep in mind that the time starts counting from its departure in Cancun, so instead of a 7-hour tour it will be less time, or you can pay extra time to make it 6 or more hours.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. If the port authority (Capitanía de Puerto) decides conditions are unsafe and closes the port for boats over 40 ft, we reschedule at no cost or refund in full. If the port closes only for boats under 40 ft, we do sail — but without water activities.
Is the charter really 100% private?
Yes. Every charter is a fully-private booking. The boat, crew and day are entirely yours. We never combine groups.
